COSSMA 6I2014 3 EDITORIAL Sensitivity ... ... and not just in the packaging The packaging of make-up, BB and CC creams should be hygienic, easy to carry about, and such that no product residue dries on, and blocks, the actuator orifice. The study shows that the packaging design and composi- tion has a significant holistic effect, and impacts strongly on the sensitive feel of the product. This should also be seriously considered when attempting to create successful hair care products. The subject of hair care is also the focus of this issue. All that is worth knowing about current global developments, and what we can expect for the future, you will find in the article by Oru Mohiuddin of Euromonitor International, starting on page 10. Those interested in solutions to the subject of effective nat- ural products for hair care should look into the articles starting on page 12 and page 20 And starting on page 28 you will find a selection of the hair care ingredients that were on show at this year’s In-Cos- metics in Hamburg. I hope you enjoy reading this issue and that you extract a lot of useful information. Yours It’s a well known fact that, in the cosmetics business, packaging has a big job to do. What’s new, however, are the results of a study by the packaging supplier MWV, that show what a major role is filled by the pack- aging of facial care products. In the Skincare Re- search & Insights Study, the 5 stages of the facial care ritual were closely examined. The findings of the qualitative interviews carried out in Brazil, China, France, South Korea, the UK and the USA showed that the con- sumers of facial care products are not really concerned about price comparisons but more with identifying the sensory experience of the 5 stage facial care ritual: cleansing, moisturising, a glowing complexion, protection from the environ- ment, and foundation. In terms of facial cleansing it was products that can be applied with one hand, that dispense the correct amount and do not dribble out, that find most favour. With moisturising creams it is a matter of pampering oneself. The product should be hygienic and be proven by scientific efficacy tests. Here it is a matter of controlled dose size, and a product that is relatively easy to store. On the subject of a glowing complexion it is a matter of anti-ageing and skin lightening. Here the products should be so packaged and supplied that they can be used right down to the last drop. A controlled dosing mechanism and scientific evidence of efficacy again play an important role here. It is particularly women who live in areas of high solar exposure, e.g. Brazil, to whom the question of envi- ronmental protection is addressed. They apply appro- priate protective and moisturising products several times a day. And even with these products it is an ad- vantage if they can be applied with one hand, if they have a controlled dosing mechanism, and can be used while travelling.
